The deputy secretary said the initiative aims to strengthen cooperation among regional countries and create security arrangements without the involvement of powers from outside the region.
Ali Bagheri referred to the recent visit of Pakistan Army Chief General Asim Munir to Tehran. He said Munir had told Mohsen Rezaei, secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, that senior officials from Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Pakistan planned to visit Tehran and attend a joint meeting.
Iran to Hold Joint Meeting with Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Turkey
According to the deputy secretary of the SNSC, Saudi Defense Minister Khalid bin Salman, Pakistan Army Chief General Asim Munir, and Ibrahim Kalin, head of Turkey’s intelligence agency, will attend the meeting.
The meeting will provide an opportunity for officials from the four countries to discuss regional developments and ways to strengthen security in West Asia.
Bagheri said the main focus of the talks would be regional security issues and ways for regional countries to improve their own security.
Tehran Calls for Security Without Foreign Interference
Referring to Iran’s experience in national security, Bagheri said the country’s defense model is based on domestic capabilities and internal resources. He said this experience had become a model for providing national security.
He also stressed Iran’s policy of having regional countries provide security for the region. He said opposing foreign interference and influence, especially by the United States and Israel, was a key part of this approach.
Regional Countries Can Help Build Lasting Security
Bagheri described Israel’s role in developments in West Asia as a factor that harms regional security and stability.
He said Iran, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Turkey could take important steps toward creating regional security arrangements by using their own resources and experience.
According to Bagheri, cooperation among the four countries under the idea of “security from within” could strengthen the role of regional countries in maintaining security in West Asia.
Tehran Seeks Stronger Regional Cooperation
Bagheri said the initiative was the result of efforts by Iran’s armed forces and people. He expressed hope that regional talks would help create stability and peace and provide better conditions for the region’s development.
The planned meeting among senior officials from Iran, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Turkey could signal an effort by regional countries to expand security talks and find common ways to address challenges in West Asia.
