According to a statement issued by the IRGC Navy’s public relations office, one tanker was located east of the strait and the other within the waterway. Both vessels struck mines while attempting to navigate unauthorized routes.

The statement said the tankers had violated regulations and switched off their navigation and positioning systems to avoid detection.

The IRGC Navy warned that any vessel cooperating with the United States military or violating Iran’s regulations in the strait’s restricted areas would face the risk of striking mines.
