Speaking at the start of an in-person and virtual parliamentary session, Ghalibaf recalled the November 4, 1964, protest by the late Imam Khomeini against the Capitulation Law, which granted privileges to American personnel in Iran.
According to the speaker, Imam Khomeini described the legislation as a symbol of national humiliation and a surrender of Iran’s independence and dignity in exchange for American dollars. Ghalibaf said the historical speech also exposed the enduring connection between the United States and the Israeli regime.
He argued that Washington’s sanctions, assassinations, and military and economic pressure against Iran continued the same pattern of domination that Imam Khomeini had condemned nearly six decades ago.
Iran has fundamentally changed since 1964, describing the country as an independent regional power that has broken free from foreign domination over the past 47 years, Ghalibaf said, adding that media pressure and military threats would not make Iran submit to foreign demands.
The speaker stressed that US statements would carry no credibility for Tehran unless Washington changed its conduct, abandoned coercion and greed, and took concrete, tangible steps to make up for its breached commitments.
Iran has nothing new to say, Ghalibaf said, arguing that the United States had entered a quagmire through miscalculations and its war against Iran, and that Washington itself must take steps to extricate itself.
