Baqaei strongly condemned the insolent and interventionist claims made by the United Arab Emirates and Canada regarding the three Iranian islands—as set forth in a joint statement by the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and the Prime Minister of Canada—and emphasized that the islands of Abu Musa, Greater Tunb, and Lesser Tunb are an inseparable and eternal part of Iran’s sovereign territory; furthermore, the repetition of baseless and fictitious claims concerning them will in no way alter established geographical, historical, and legal realities.

Condemning Canada’s absurd move to align itself with the UAE government in making territorial claims against Iran, the Foreign Ministry spokesperson noted that such an action by Canada—a country itself facing territorial claims from the US administration—is shortsighted, violates the fundamental principles of the UN Charter, runs counter to international law, and entails international responsibility for the Canadian government.

Baqaei advised the UAE government to adhere to the principle of good neighborliness, rather than fruitlessly repeating territorial claims against a large neighboring country.
