Speaking at the Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States (PUIC) meeting on Monday, Manouchehr Mottaki stressed the need to strengthen cooperation among Islamic countries and ensure the security of the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz through dialogue and shared responsibility.
He stressed that regional countries should ensure security through unity, cooperation, and dialogue, noting that one country’s security should not come at the expense of another’s insecurity.
Mottaki described the Strait of Hormuz as a strategic waterway for regional and global security and economic interests, stressing that coastal states should ensure its security through participation, dialogue, confidence-building, and cooperation, rather than the military presence of foreign powers.
He called for establishing a comprehensive regional security mechanism and cooperation among coastal states on maritime safety, environmental protection, search and rescue, and combating crime, while emphasizing the need to reduce tensions and move toward greater regional cooperation.
Mottaki criticized US unilateral sanctions and restrictions on Iran’s civil aviation, describing them as the politicization of vital services, and called on Islamic countries to oppose this approach.
He thanked countries that continue air cooperation with Iran and called on PUIC members to support civil aviation, humanitarian access, and legitimate air cooperation.
Mottaki warned that if the United States resumes military attacks, Iran will deliver a broader and more decisive response, stressing that any threat, aggression, or miscalculation would be met with an immediate deterrent response.
He also stressed that Iran’s national security and sovereignty cannot be violated, warning that any miscalculation regarding Iran’s capabilities and resolve could have serious consequences for those responsible and their regional supporters.
Addressing crises in the Muslim world, particularly Palestine and Gaza, Mottaki called for the active use of political, parliamentary and diplomatic means to ease crises and support the rights of nations.
He stressed that the lack of comprehensive regional security and cooperation mechanisms is a major source of instability and can have repercussions for energy, trade, migration and the economy.
Referring to the situation in Palestine and Gaza, Mottaki described it as a humanitarian issue related to the rights and self-determination of the Palestinian people, stressing that lasting regional security cannot be achieved without addressing these rights.
He called for transforming the solidarity of Islamic countries from common positions expressed in statements into practical and coordinated action to support the Palestinian people.
