In a statement marking World Space Week 2026 on Saturday, the ministry said this year’s theme, “Rocket Revolution,” highlights the importance of space in development, communications, and national security.

It stressed that independent and sustainable access to space requires the capability to design, build, and launch satellites, as well as develop indigenous satellite launch vehicles.

The statement described satellite launch vehicles as products of advanced technologies and the accumulated expertise of the country’s specialists, and as part of strategic technology development.

Referring to modern warfare, the Ministry of Defense said space has become part of security calculations and described dependence on space infrastructure as a factor that can leave countries vulnerable and constrain their national capabilities.

The ministry also described indigenous space capabilities as essential to national independence and resilience, emphasizing scientific investment, infrastructure development, and the training of specialized personnel.

It described Iran’s satellite launch vehicle program, from Safir and Simorgh to Qoqnoos and Sarir, as the result of years of experience and technological advancement, and stressed the need to continue efforts toward independent and sustainable access to space.

The ministry also described space, artificial intelligence, data, and emerging technologies as drivers of future power, stressing the continuation of Iran’s scientific and technological efforts to achieve independent, sustainable, and robust access to space, strengthen national power, promote sustainable development, and safeguard the country’s interests and security.
