The commander made the remarks on social media on Wednesday following his visit to military bases in northwestern Iran, saying that the country will not give in to the enemy, just as it did during the eight-year war imposed by Iraq’s toppled Baath regime in the 1980s.
“Relying on Almighty God, we will not back down even an iota in the face of the enemy, just as we did during the Sacred Defense. The future belongs to dear Islam and the heroic Iranian nation,” he said, while commemorating the memory of those killed during the Sacred Defense, a term referring to Iran’s national defense during the 1980-1988 war with the Baath regime.
