In an interview with IRNA on Friday, Salehi commented on the Republicans’ defeat in the US midterm elections, saying that one American publication had described the outcome as a defeat for the Republicans against the Islamic Republic of Iran.

He said the US officials had confronted Iran without considering the consequences, influenced by Israeli propaganda, and are now facing the repercussions.

Salehi stressed that the issue facing Washington today is not merely how to withdraw from the war, but how to preserve its credibility and reputation, as the confrontation with Iran has called into question the myth of US military invincibility.

He also said that Washington’s false narratives had not weakened Iranian public opinion or national unity, and that the United States had failed to topple the Islamic Republic, fracture Iran, divide the people and government, or pull the country into its political orbit.

Salehi underlined that the outcome of the confrontation had been the opposite of what Washington had sought, resulting in greater national unity, stronger public support for the Islamic Republic, and growing opposition to Western policies.

  • NOURNEWS – It should not be assumed that an electoral defeat for the Republicans would prevent Trump from making military decisions. Decisions on military action against Iran are governed by security, military and strategic calculations and cannot be tied solely to the outcome of elections. Nevertheless, it is clear that if the Democrats win more votes and bring an end to the Republicans’ control of a congressional majority, the possibility of the military action Trump has in mind would not be ruled out, but the political and oversight costs, as well as the legal challenges such an action would face in Congress, would increase significantly.

  • NOURNEWS – In the 2026 midterm elections, Elon Musk has once again entered the political arena with enormous financial resources. Since July alone, he has spent approximately $276 million supporting Republicans, bringing his total political spending in the 2026 election cycle to around $366 million. This is where former President Joe Biden’s warning about the emergence of a “tech-industrial oligarchy” in the US moves beyond political rhetoric and becomes a tangible issue: economic power, media power and political power are converging in one place.
