Located on the Aras River, the dam is situated 220 km northeast of Tabriz on the Iran-Azerbaijan border.
The Qiz Qalasi Dam, set to become operational in the coming days, is expected to strengthen the longstanding partnership between Iran and Azerbaijan, and bolster regional cooperation.
