Iran-Hungary relations on right track: Amirabdollahian

Iran’s Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian has hailed his country’s relations with Hungary, saying the two sides are going on the right track.

Amirabdollahian, during a joint press conference with his Hungarian counterpart Peter Szijjarto on Thursday evening also announced the signing of two strategic documents and a roadmap for agricultural cooperation during the latest Joint Economic Commission session held earlier in the day.

Szijjarto headed a delegation to Tehran with the aim of holding the joint economic commission meeting and had constructive discussions with Iran’s Finance Minister, Ehsan Khandouz in the morning, Amirabdollahian said

“All dimensions of cooperation in the fields of science, technology, agriculture, water management, health, industry, energy, student exchange and tourism were the focus of the meeting of the joint economic commission of the two sides”, he said.

The top Iranian diplomat also touched on the topics he had discussed during his face-to-face meeting with the visiting Hungarian foreign minister.

“We had frank discussions regarding Iran's rationale for supporting Palestine, and I urged him that Hungary should do everything in its power to stop the war in Gaza and help return stability and security to the region”, Amirabdollahian revealed.

“We also emphasized the need to end the crisis in Ukraine through diplomacy and negotiation”, he said.

Also, in the joint press conference, Szijjarto stressed the need for diplomacy, especially in the situation the world is facing today to resolve issues and problems.

“We can talk by sending a message to the media, but it is more courageous to talk to each other in person, and the reason for my trip to Tehran is to help prevent the spread of tension in the region”, he underlined.

He said Hungary and Iran have mutual respect for each other but warned that the escalation of tension in West Asia can cause many problems for the whole world.

Diplomacy works

Meanwhile, Iran’s Finance Minister Ehsan Khandouz hailed the 4th Iran-Hungary Joint Economic Cooperation Commission meeting that was attended by high-ranking officials and experts from both countries earlier on Thursday.

The joint commission weighed plans for the expansion of cooperation in different fields such as trade, investment, industry, agriculture, energy, transportation, science and technology.

Elaborating on the meeting that saw the inking of cooperation documents in the field of agriculture, Khandozi said that schedules of commercial and international exhibitions to provide cooperation opportunities for private sectors of the two countries were exchanged between the two sides.

He announced Hungary’s readiness to cooperate in the field of aviation and airport infrastructures as well as provide services to flights transiting the country.

Referring to Iran's growing volume of trade with neighbors and beyond, the Iranian finance minister said that the government has been able to achieve tangible results through diplomacy.
