Speaking at the 4th day of the 9th International Exhibition of Transportation, Logistics, and Related Industries entitled “Iran Rail Expo 2025” on Wednesday, Houshang Bazvand stated that the Rasht-Astara rail line is one of the missing links of the Astara-Chabahar Rail Corridor.
He, who is also the head of Iran’s Construction and Development of Transportation Infrastructure Company, stated that the executive contract for the construction operation of the railway has been forwarded by the Russian side to the ministry.
Astara-Rasht Railway has received the environmental licenses as well, the deputy roads minister underlined.
Accelerating the construction operation of the transportation corridors is one of the main priorities of the ministry in line with realizing goals of the 7th Five-Year Socioeconomic and Cultural Development Plan, Bazvand continued.
For exporting Indian products to Europe, there is no better route than Chabahar-Astara, which is cheap and close, he said, adding that there is also no better route than Sarakhs-Kermanshah Khosravi for exporting Chinese products.
The Rasht–Astara line is considered one of Iran’s most important transportation projects. Completion of this 162-kilometer railway could transform Iran’s position in the regional transit.
