After a few days of intensive negotiations between the Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council of Iran and his Saudi counterpart in Beijing, an agreement was reached today to resume relations between the two countries, during a ceremony with the signing of an official joint statement between Iran, Saudi Arabia and China.
NOURNEWS - Following president Raisi's visit to Beijing in February and the talks held between the President of China and the President of Iran, Admiral Shamkhani started intensive negotiations with his Saudi counterpart in order to finally resolve the issues between Tehran and Riyadh, from Monday 6 March in Beijing. At the end of these negotiations, today, March 10, 2023, a tripartite statement was issued in Beijing signed by Ali Shamkhani, the representative of the Supreme Leader and Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council of Iran, Mosaed bin Mohammed Al-Aiban, the National Security adviser, Minister of State and member of the Council of Ministers of Saudi Arabia and Wang Yi member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party and Director of the Office of the Central Foreign Affairs Commission of the Chinese Communist Party. The text of this tripartite statement is as follows: In response to the worthy initiative of Mr. Xi Jinping, the President of the People's Republic of China, in supporting the expansion of relations between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, based on the principle of good neighborliness and considering his agreement with the heads of the two countries to host and support the dialogue between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, as well as the desire of the two countries to resolve differences through dialogue and diplomacy based on fraternal ties and emphasizing the adherence of the two countries to the principles and goals of the United Nations Charter and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation Charter and international principles and procedures, delegations of the Islamic Republic of Iran headed by Admiral Ali Shamkhani, the representative of the Supreme Leader and the Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council of Iran and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, headed by Dr. Mosead bin Mohammed Al-Aiban, the National Security adviser, Minister of State and member of the Council of Ministers of Saudi Arabia met and talked with each other in Beijing from March 6 to 10, 2023. The Islamic Republic of Iran and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia are grateful to the Republic of Iraq and the Sultanate of Oman for hosting the talks between the two sides in 2021-2022 and the leadership and government of the People's Republic of China for hosting and supporting the talks held in this country, and trying to make it come true. As a result of the talks, the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia agreed to resume diplomatic relations and reopen embassies and representatives within two months. The foreign ministers of the two countries will meet each other to implement this decision and make the necessary arrangements for the exchange of ambassadors. The two countries, emphasizing respect for sovereignty and non-interference in each other's internal affairs, agreed upon terms based on the security cooperation agreement signed on April 17, 2001, as well as the general agreement on economic, commercial, investment, technical, scientific, cultural, sports and youth cooperation, agreed on May 27, 1998. The three countries declare their decisive will to use all efforts to strengthen regional and international peace and security.
