Washington's anger over European inaction in Vienna talks

The skill and nobility of the negotiating team of the Islamic Republic of Iran, which has compiled the proposed texts in a very precise manner, citing the JCPOA agreement, has practically deprived the Western side of the possibility of making excuses for the new texts being outside the agreed principles.

NOURNEWS - At the end of five days of talks between the representatives of Iran and the P4 + 1, the various sides returned to their capitals so that, as Enrique Mora, the EU's Deputy Foreign Minister, announced, after consulting and deciding on the issues raised in the talks, they would return to Vienna later this week.

The most important feature of the new round of talks was the calm action of the three European countries, on the one hand, and the active approach of Iran, on the other, by presenting two proposed documents on "the lifting of sanctions" and "nuclear commitments", showing that Iran had arrived in Vienna with seriousness, will, and readiness to reach a good agreement and make good use of the time to advance the negotiations constructively.

Iran's operational and groundbreaking proposals, however, as stated in the statements of this country's chief negotiator, were not to the liking of the Europeans, and they tried to dissuade the Iranian delegation from pursuing them under any pretext.

Ali Bagheri said on Friday night, after the meeting of the Joint Commission: "It is true that the European parties were not very satisfied with some of our proposals, but these proposals are based on common principles between the two sides, and therefore, they did not object to the fact that these proposals were irrelevant, but they said they did not agree with our views."

In the meantime, although US officials continue to play the role of intensifying pressure through threats in their numerous statements, what is certain is that the White House is in dire need of an agreement for a number of reasons, and is therefore outraged by the inaction and non-constructive and passive stance of the Europeans on Iran's proposals.

The White House's main reasons for insisting on a deal are Biden's unprecedented decline in popularity and the Trump administration's efforts to overthrow the Democrats, as well as their concerns about a foreign policy record that could shake the party's position in the upcoming election.

To put it precisely, Biden's team is not only under pressure from Republicans opposed to the agreement, but also faces serious sabotage by the Zionist lobby to intensify action against Iran's nuclear program and prevent any progress in the negotiations, and therefore expects the three European countries to take an active and divisive approach in the negotiation process towards an agreement.

In contrast to this, the preferred option for the Europeans since the beginning of the signing of the JCPOA has always been to impose severe restrictions on Iran's nuclear program without giving concessions, and even after the signing of the JCPOA, they have not been willing to open economic cooperation with Iran under various pretexts.

After Trump's withdrawal from the JCPOA and the implementation of the policy of maximum pressure against Iran, the Europeans were in the best position to implement their strategy, as on the one hand they persuaded Iran to continue to restrict nuclear activities by making false promises, and on the other hand, under the pretext of not being able to counter Trump's policies, they did not activate any economic or banking cooperation with Iran.

Western diplomatic sources believe that Europe, by its passive behavior in the negotiations, is still seeking to revive the past and is trying to transfer the costs of non-fulfillment of its obligations to the United States by leveraging increasing US pressure on Iran, while gaining concessions from the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Meanwhile, the skill and nobility of the negotiating team of the Islamic Republic of Iran, which has compiled the proposed texts in a very precise manner, citing the JCPOA agreement, has practically deprived the Western side of the possibility of making excuses for the new texts being outside the agreed principles.

According to this, although in the early hours of the new round of talks in Vienna, the Western media tried to portray the path taken by Iran as a disappointing one, what is certain is that the White House is angry that the passivity of the three European countries is a major factor in the lack of progress in negotiations, and their decision to return to the capitals is a testament to this claim.
