Turkey has called for a resumption of relations with the European Union

Turkey has reiterated its call for EU membership and, while calling for a resumption of relations with the EU, said that the outbreak of the coronavirus was a clear sign of the need for unity.

NOURNEWS- urkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said: "We must seize the opportunity in these difficult days to revive relations between Turkey and the European Union. I hope that the European Union, which has a discriminatory attitude towards Turkey, has now realized that we are in the same boat.

He continued: "The idea behind Schumann's statement guarantees Europe's rebirth from the ashes after the war that destroyed and disintegrated it, and once again its countries have come together for peace, security, development and prosperity, and there must be differences and insults." The European Union's founding foundations were established on May 9 by accepting Schumann's statement. This day has been celebrated in Turkey since 1999, when Turkey was registered as a candidate for membership in the union.

The Turkish president also once again took the opportunity to raise the issue of his country's membership in the European Union, saying: "This small invisible enemy, the coronavirus, has once again reminded us of the meaning of unity."

As of Saturday, Turkey had recorded 137,115 cases of coronavirus.
