NOURNEWS - Tens of thousands of Americans staged mass demonstrations calling for legislation to restrict the carrying and use of firearms. Called "Walk for Our Lives," the movement was founded by survivors of the 2018 Florida high school massacre.
There have been 240 shootings in the United States this year, according to the Armed Violence Archive.
In 2021, nearly 700 shootings were reported. Americans own 48 percent of the world's civilian weapons, according to the Congressional Research Service. There are 120 guns per 100 Americans in the United States, according to a report by a Swiss gun ownership organization.
According to IBC News, organizers of the protests across the United States say the rallies, especially in Washington, send a simple message to the country's political leaders; "Your passivity kills Americans."
Although the weapon is a symbol of American society, or in Western movies, the tool of power in the Wild West, but now, due to the alarming development of insecurity due to carrying weapons in the United States, tens of thousands of people march to regulate the use of firearms.
A group of U.S. senators recently announced a plan called the "Red Flag" that would allow local officials to ban those who are legally considered a "danger to others" from buying and owning firearms.
The plan came at a time when the presence of millions of weapons in the hands of the people has effectively made such a plan ineffective in countering unbridled killings in the United States.
Although US officials have come to the conclusion that the unbridled freedom to bear arms has effectively turned the United States into a battlefield, in practice, because of their strong dependence on arms cartels, they have not taken any steps to stop this practice.
US officials want power from the arms lobby, as Trump called the National Rifle Association (NRA) annual lobby meeting in Houston, Texas, "ridiculous" and called for teachers to arm themselves.
It is noteworthy that the criticisms leveled by politicians these days over gun laws are not in the context of popular demand but in the form of rivalries and tensions between Republicans and Democrats in the run-up to the midterm congressional elections.
Democrats have blamed Republicans for failing to pass anti-gun laws in Congress, and Republicans have blamed the Democratic administration's lack of security for recent killings.
Despite being aware of the bloody consequences of gun freedom in the United States, which has become a disaster today, US officials and lawmakers continue to be under the banner of arms lobbies to gain and maintain power and refuse to comply with popular demands for gun laws.
The government's surrender to gun lobbies and the continued freedom to bear arms take the lives of thousands of innocent people each year, and the US government simply suffers with regret.
A noteworthy point in this is the struggle of some Persian-language media outlets that try to show the situation of Iran and the United States in this similar issue by simultaneously publishing the protests of the American people with what they call the shooting of a patrol officer in Tehran.
However, the American people are protesting not against the possession of weapons in the hands of the military and law enforcement forces, but over the existence of millions of weapons in the hands of the people and the unlimited freedom to buy and sell weapons on the streets of America, resulting in thousands of innocent lives.
