Enrique Mora's visit to Tehran
Given the European Union's role in exchanging views between Tehran and Washington, Enrique Mora's visit to Tehran could be seen as a new step in constructive consultations on the few issues that has remained important.
NOURNEWS - EU Deputy Foreign Minister Enrique Moura will travel to Tehran on Tuesday this week to continue talks with officials of the Islamic Republic of Iran. EU foreign policy chief Joseph Borrell said on Saturday that his deputy Enrique Mora will leave for Tehran to follow the Vienna talks, soon. After the Vienna talks reached a stage where the outcome depended on a political decision by the United States, the P4+1 negotiators and Iran, while maintaining constant contacts, followed up negotiations to reach an agreement on the remaining issues, through the exchange of messages. Given the European Union's role in exchanging views between Tehran and Washington, Enrique Mora's visit to Tehran could be seen as a new step in constructive consultations on the few issues that remain important. Although the continuation of hostile approaches by the United States against Iran is in conflict with the spirit of negotiation to reach an agreement, but so far the negotiation process has continued. The United States, which is responsible for shaping the status quo by illegally withdrawing from the JCPOA, has continued to pursue a policy of pushing for concessions since the beginning of the new round of talks, and continues to be primarily responsible for prolonging negotiations. The recent non-binding resolution of the US Congress is another example of the US effort to gain concessions by increasing political pressure, which, of course, will not change the principled positions of the Islamic Republic of Iran. Achieving a strong, stable, and credible agreement, while possible, requires Washington to be realistic and to learn from the mistakes that make up the complex situation today.
