NOURNEWS - Yesterday afternoon, Monday, December 29, a new round of talks between the representatives of the Islamic Republic of Iran and the P5+1 group began with the aim of lifting the sanctions and holding a joint commission of the JCPOA in Vienna, the capital of Austria.
Although it is too early to judge the practical achievements of the talks, the various comments made by officials present or close to the talks since last night indicate that the talks are constructive and forward-looking.
The Western media cautiously reported positively on the first day of the talks.
Published reports indicate that outside the official negotiating table, bilateral or multilateral meetings have been held between the political delegations in Vienna, signaling the tightening of consultations to move the not-so-smooth round of negotiations.
Meanwhile, while the Islamic Republic of Iran insists on the main goal of the talks, which is the lifting of all illegal and oppressive sanctions, Western officials have made use of what they see as an opportunity to revive the United States.
The confrontation between the two propositions, that is, the focus of the negotiations on the lifting of illegal sanctions or how the United States will return to the JCPOA, will actually affect the "timing of the negotiations."
Iran is not interested in prolonging and eroding the negotiations and has entered the field with a result-oriented approach, but raising minor and unimportant issues can slow down the negotiation process and challenge the outcome.
Our officials have repeatedly stated that, firstly, they do not consider the US's return to the JCPOA an important and significant issue, and secondly, due to Washington's illegal withdrawal from the JCPOA, its return to the P5+1 is subject to conditions without which the US cannot return to the JCPOA.
Ali Bagheri, the head of the Islamic Republic of Iran's delegation to the Vienna talks, said last night that he had entered the Vienna talks with serious will and strong preparations to lift the sanctions, and that the main focus and priority was on lifting the sanctions.
At the same time, Foreign Ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh also stressed this in a weekly meeting with reporters yesterday: "It will be clear today how long the talks will last and what their quality will be, but it is important that if the United States has the determination to come to Vienna to resolve the stalemate and issues that have led to the failure of the negotiations in previous rounds and to enter Vienna from that point on, it will certainly lead to easier negotiations."
Khatibzadeh also said, without giving details: "If the United States continues on the previous path, Iran will definitely have several choices."
An analytical study of the negotiations held in the past, as well as the considerable complexities that prevail in this round of talks, can provide a high degree of certainty to the statement "the length of the first round of talks," which will be based on determining the "principles and foundations of talks".
Due to the importance of forming an agreement on the principles and foundations of the talks, which is one of the most important parts of the negotiations, consultation of the delegations of the countries present in the negotiations with the capitals is absolutely necessary and inevitable.
Based on this, it can be expected that the delegation of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the Vienna talks will return to the country in the next few days, and after conducting the necessary consultations at high levels, will return to Vienna to follow the talks.
