Defense diplomacy helps ensure Iran’s security

The Islamic Republic of Iran has attached importance to capacities of defense diplomacy in recent years; therefore, Bagheri’s visits to Islamabad and Moscow emphasize that Tehran wants to continue security cooperation with the two neighboring countries based on mutual understanding.

NOURNEWS – Recent trips by Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Major-General Mohammad Bagheri to neighboring states of Pakistan and Russia are parts of Iran’s defense and military diplomacy to guarantee security in border areas.

The Islamic Republic of Iran has attached importance to capacities of defense diplomacy in recent years; therefore, Bagheri’s visits to Islamabad and Moscow emphasize that Tehran wants to continue security cooperation with the two neighboring countries based on mutual understanding.

These trips have once more shown the significance of focusing on reliable relations with neighboring states and strategic partners.

Bagheri arrived in Islamabad on October 12 to hold discussions with Pakistani authorities, including the prime minister, his counterpart, army chief and other commanders.

Development of defense cooperation, expansion of joint measures in border areas, fight against terrorism as well as discussions on regional and Islamic world developments were among the main subjects of the bilateral consultations.

One of the main achievements of the trip to Pakistan was Iran’s special attention to neighboring states to create a roadmap for the expansion of ties.

Pakistan as an important eastern neighbor should be given more importance because it can play a key role in Afghanistan.

The Islamic Republic, being well aware of the threat of terrorism near its borders, has tried to warn its eastern neighboring state of the menace and reached a consensus on Afghanistan.

On October 17, the Iranian major general, heading a high-ranking delegation arrived in Moscow to discuss issues of mutual interests at the invitation of Sergey Shoygu, Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation.

During his four-day stay in Russia, Bagheri and Russian officials held talks on expansion of defense and military cooperation, fight against terrorism, review of regional and international developments.

The two sides reached a consensus to hold a joint military commission in Tehran within three months.

Despite the fact that political and military ties between Russia and Iran are based on their own national interests, their recent cooperation in Syria showed that they can follow the trend in the future.
