NOURNEWS - The Islamic Republic of Iran became the ninth permanent member of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization today, Friday, September 17, 2021, during the summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization with the consent of all members.
This great event, which took place at Russia’s request, the acceptance of Tajikistan as the president of Shanghai and the agreement of all member states, marked a new page in Iran's strategic relations with Eastern countries. To send a message to the world that Iran's high position and effective role in regional and international equations cannot be ignored.
Extensive and influential aspects of Shanghai in the field of international relations on the one hand and Iran's special and strategic position in the international system as a country with many capacities and a link between East and West on the other hand, make this great event a factor for adding abundant economic capacities. The geopolitics of the Islamic Republic of Iran became the Shanghai Organization, and our country benefited from the significant benefits of membership in this organization.
Regardless of the economic achievements of Iran's membership in Shanghai, this event also has significant achievements for our country in terms of creating a strategic balance in the field of regulating relations with the West.
The importance of this issue becomes clearer when we know that most of the economic and political pressures of the West on Iran in the past years, which were accompanied by a coercive view, are doomed to decrease with the presence of our country in an effective regional pact, and its scope will definitely decrease.
Accordingly, permanent membership in a Shanghai- Dimensions organization, two of which, China and India, are among the world's top economic powers, two of which, China and Russia, are permanent members of the Security Council and have veto rights, and four of its members, China, Russia, India and Pakistan, are nuclear powers, and with 35 percent of land and 42 percent of the world's population, it is the world's largest producer and consumer of energy. Naturally, it will enhance Iran's global standing.
The point is that although the Shanghai Agreement initially had a more security-oriented approach and focus, it has for years focused on virtually all aspects of the world, especially on per capita economic growth, and provided a platform for the newly formed power bloc against a unipolar system.
To put it better; The Shanghai Cooperation Organization, with about 25 percent of the world's GDP, is one of the few organizations with a contemporary economic and security-military nature to which the "Anglo-Saxon civilization" has no access and has based its development capacities solely on countries independent of Western hegemony.
This important feature, along with the operationalization of the east-looking strategy in Iran, has caused our country's permanent membership in this organization to be seen as a blow to the Western strategy to limit Iran and to evaluate it as complementary to the power-building process of the new power bloc and the cohesion of West and East Asia against itself.
It should also be noted that Iran's membership in the Shanghai Treaty will open up a new path of security cooperation in the form of a collective security pact, which is very important because Iran is on the north-south and west-to-east corridor.
Iran's location at the bottleneck of these two highways, in addition to our country's special position in energy supply, which is much needed by China and India as two important members of the Shanghai Agreement, along with bilateral strategic agreements with China and India, including a 25-year cooperation document with China. One of the mutual advantages is Iran's presence in Shanghai.
On the other hand, Iran's special and irreplaceable role in countering terrorism and extremism, part of which was expressed in countering Takfiri terrorists and supporting national governments in Iraq, Syria and Lebanon, is another special capacity of our country on which the members of Shanghai have opened a special account.
Iran's strong presence in the fight against terrorism in recent years has shown that Tehran is the only power that seeks to truly confront extremism and does not allow the use of terrorist groups as a tool to advance political goals in regional and supra-regional countries.
Accordingly, permanent membership in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization will henceforth present Iran as a power that, in addition to strong popular support and domestic beliefs, is accompanied by a large foreign political-economic-security support, which will naturally have a far greater impact from Western threats and pressures.
This issue, considering the special view of the 13th government and Ayatollah Raisi himself in the field of foreign policy, which has a special focus on economic issues and the focus of regional cooperation and relations with neighbors, has practically affected Iran's strategy in dealing with the West.
