NOURNEWS - The cessation of voluntary actions of the Islamic Republic of Iran under the Additional Protocol to the NPT Treaty in accordance with the law approved by the Islamic Consultative Assembly began today.
The Iranian counter-action, which was carried out due to the non-fulfillment of Western commitments, especially regarding the lifting of sanctions, was sent to Rafael Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency, in a letter dated February 17, 2010.
It was after sending this letter that the Director General of the Agency requested a trip to Iran, which was done by our country with conditions, and he made a 24-hour trip to Tehran. In fact, Grossi's visit to Tehran was done to achieve both legal and real goals.
First; Given the uproar over the severe consequences of suspending the voluntary implementation of the Additional Protocol, on the eve of this action by Iran, the IAEA sought to insinuate that it remains at the center of monitoring Iran's peaceful activities as an international body and is an active and effective actor in this field.
Second; the IAEA director, who took office with the unprecedented support of the Trump administration, sought to remind new White House tenants of his ability to engage with Iran and gain their support to continue in office.
Naturally, given Iran's determination to continue cooperating with the IAEA, none of the stated goals can be in conflict with Iran's approaches and interests, and therefore, accepting Grossi's trip to visit Iran and intensive bilateral talks led to the issuance of a joint statement.
The Iranian nuclear issue and its subsequent actions and negotiations have been one of the most important issues in the field of national security in the past two decades, and Iran's Supreme National Security Council has played a direct and effective role in its management.
The official statement of the spokesman of the Secretariat of Iran's Supreme National Security Council on February 22 stated that: "The joint statement of Iran and the IAEA and its executive annex, which was agreed upon during Grossi's visit to Tehran, clarified the issue of full implementation of the law passed by the parliament and there has been no change in its arrangements." It shows that Grossi's visit to Tehran and the agreements reached not only did not contradict the law of the parliament and the decisions of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, but also complemented the advancement of this law and the following decisions.
Yesterday's orders of the Supreme Leader of the Revolution regarding the need for unanimity in advancing the implementation of the law of the Iranian parliament (Islamic Consultative Assembly), while reiterating the responsibility of different parts of the country in this regard, was a very important emphasis on the need for unity in matters of national interest and security.
It seems on this basis that although the events of this trip led to some misunderstandings and raised concerns among some sympathizers, what happened in practice was nothing but moving in the direction of the law passed by the parliament, and the Western side has received a strong message of Iran's serious determination to realize the rights of the nation.
