NOURNEWS - Some Iraqi media outlets announced in an unofficial news release on Sunday, December 28, that Abu Jahad al-Hashemi, who previously headed the office of former Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi, had traveled to Tehran as the representative of current Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kazim.

The Iraqi media, which first reported the trip, announced a few hours later that the Iraqi delegation had left Iran and entered Baghdad after meeting with Iranian officials.

So far, none of the Iraqi and Iranian officials have denied or confirmed the delegation's visit to Tehran.

Unofficial news releases stated that the purpose of the trip was to discuss recent security developments in Iraq and the unusual increase in U.S. military movements in the region and the exchange of messages.

Meanwhile, there has been news from some media outlets about the Americans' request for a visit to Tehran by the Iraqi prime minister's representative.

On Sunday evening, an Iraqi political source said: "The Iranians have told the Iraqi delegation that they have no intention of escalating tensions in the region.

He also said that understandings between Iraq and Iran have continued regardless of the U.S.-Iran controversy, and Baghdad does not consider any accusations of recent missile attacks on the Green Zone to Iran.
