NOURNEWS - Ahmad al-Mahlawi, the governor of al-Qa'im in Iraq's Anbar province, stated that there were small groups of ISIS remnants in the desert and that they were trying to destabilize the western part of the country.
He clarified in an interview with Al-Ma'loumah news agency: "Small groups of remnants of ISIS, including two to three terrorists, are still present in the desert areas of the province, targeting security forces from time to time and destabilizing the western regions.
Ahmad al-Mahlawi added: "These groups choose the winding and remote areas of the city to hide from the security forces so that these forces cannot find them, otherwise they must surrender or be killed. However, security forces have managed to identify some of these small complexes and kill a number of their leaders through numerous intelligence operations."
He added: "These groups hide among sheep herds and infiltrate other areas by threatening shepherds, in order not to be targeted by Iraqi Army fighters and security forces."
