NOURNEWS - Kazem Gharibabadi, Iran's Ambassador and Permanent Representative to International Organizations in Vienna and Iran's Permanent Representative to the IAEA, stated on Friday night that the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) had published a new report on the verification of JCPOA's implementation: "The IAEA's new report on JCPOA both shows the continuation of the organization's verification activities and illustrates Iran's actions in implementing its decisions to suspend JCPOA's commitments."
Gharibabadi added: In connection with the technical developments in the nuclear program, this report points to the following developments:
- Iran's heavy water production exceeds 130 tons and reaches 132.6 tons;
- Using new machines, including enrichment with IR 4, IR 5, IR 6, IRS, IRS 6, and IR2 M machines in research and development lines;
- Enrichment of uranium up to 4.5% and beyond the set limit in JCPOA;
- Production of 1571.6 kg of enriched uranium, which is 550.7 kg more than the March's report, and 1356.5 kg of which is uranium with a richness of 4.5%.
The envoy further noted that the report indicates a continuation of verification and monitoring activities under the special conditions caused by coronavirus and proper cooperation of Iran in this field, while also showing a continuation of temporary and voluntary implementation of the Additional Protocol by Iran and the continued continuation of verification of the Protocol declarations by the agency.
It also shows a continuation of verification of non-diversion of nuclear materials declared in Iran by the Agency, he said, adding that it proves the fact that the IAEA has verified and monitored Iran's nuclear commitments under the JCPOA.
Iran issued a statement on 2019, one year after the withdrawal of the United States from the JCPOA, announcing a reduction in some of the JCPOA's commitments to the remaining parties to the agreement and if the other side's commitments are not fulfilled, it will take steps to reduce its obligations, which is why Iran has taken five steps.
In this regard, Ali Akbar Salehi, the head of the Atomic Energy Organization, in an interview with 'Etemad' newspaper, stated about the measures taken after five steps to reduce JCPOA's obligations: "Nuclear activities, as well as research and development on the nuclear fuel cycle in particular, and uranium enrichment (including production and storage) are being carried out without any restrictions. Work is underway to build a number of fuel complexes for Arak reactors and power reactors. The construction of the Arak Heavy Water Research Reactor (new design) is progressing in cooperation with foreign parties and related equipment. Construction of a number of reactor equipment and parts is being carried out using the power of domestic companies. The construction of two new nuclear power reactors is underway in Bushehr with the help of Russia. Production and storage of heavy water is being carried out without any restrictions."
