Yemen's Ansarullah Ready to Complete the Prisoner Exchange Agreement

Yemen's Ansarullah announced that it is ready to implement a prisoner exchange agreement with the resigned Yemeni government.

NOURNEWS - Abdul Qadir al-Murtada, head of the Ansarullah Committee on Prisoners of War and Detainees, wrote in his tweet: "The attempt to exchange prisoners is to protect their health against the threat of Coronavirus."

He expressed that the reason for the delay in the prisoner exchange agreement was the Saudi coalition's opposition to the signing of a draft agreement submitted by the United Nations and the Red Cross, which was presented two weeks ago.

However, the resigned Yemeni government accuses Ansarullah of not being serious about implementing the prisoner exchange agreement.

The resigned Yemeni government and Ansarullah signed an agreement in Jordan to exchange 1,400 prisoners under UN supervision. The United Nations has suggested that the agreement should be reached in two stages.

On March 20th, Martin Griffiths, the UN Special Envoy for Yemen, called on the parties involved to speed up the process of releasing prisoners due to the danger of Coronavirus.
