Russia Condemns US Cancellation of Nuclear Sanction Waivers

Russia's foreign ministry spokesman stated: "Apparently, the Americans do not know how to prevent the implementation of the UN Security Council, but the remaining parties to the nuclear deal will continue to fulfill their obligations and Washington's new move will not stop the UN Security Council's plans."

NOURNEWS - According to RIA Novosti News Agency, Russia's Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharovna expressed that by lifting of the embargo on Iran's nuclear facilities by the US government would slow down the implementation of their reconstruction plans, but it could not stop them.

"These new steps by the United States and their harmfulness are still to be assessed. From the practical standpoint the termination of these sanction waivers may slow down but by no means stop the implementation of the important reconfiguration projects that constitute the basis of the 2015 agreements, but it will not be able to stop them." Zakharova said.

"Of course, we condemn this act by the United States. The international community has long urged Washington to return to its commitments under the nuclear deal, but instead we see a sustained hostility from US political institutions to Iran, which is concerned about its legal responsibilities to international partners. It has gone beyond its credibility as a party to commitments and to strengthening the authority of the UN Security Council, In fact, there is a perception that Washington does not know at all what else it needs to do to defeat the implementation of the UN Security Council and the Security Council resolution on this agreement." She continued.

Zakharova pointed out that: "Applying pressure on Iran shows the inability of the United States to effectively resolve the complex tasks involved. Such actions actually end the claims of Washington officials about having a leadership position in the world, and this is clear even in Western society."

"The countries that participate in the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action for the Iranian nuclear program stay in touch at all levels and they will continue to address all issues concerning the stable and all-round implementation of the JCPOA and the corresponding UN Security Council resolution," she said.

Earlier, the Washington Post reported, citing news sources in the US government and domestic documents, that the United States was lifting sanctions on Iran's nuclear program. According to the US government's plan, a 60-day period has been set for lifting the sanctions waiver on the reconstruction of Iran's nuclear reactor in Arak.

This plan should be implemented as part of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) so that the reactor can be reused in such a way that it cannot be used to produce military plutonium. Initially, the United States and China were supposed to play a role in modernizing the Arak reactor, but after Washington withdrew from the nuclear deal in 2018, the program was left to Britain and China.
