Russia Denies Claims of a Meeting in Geneva, Approves a Quadripartite Peace Summit

Russia's special envoy for the Middle East and Russia's deputy foreign minister today (Thursday) denied media claims that Moscow had proposed holding a meeting between Americans and Palestinians in Geneva.

NOURNEWS- According to the Times of Israel, Russia has offered to facilitate a meeting between the US and Palestinian leaders in the coming weeks

Reacting to the report, Mikhail Bogdanov, Russia's special envoy for the Middle East and deputy foreign minister, said: "What kind of meeting? Why Geneva? This is completely absurd and illogical."

He added that Moscow did not consider it possible to support Washington's deal of the century to resolve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Bogdanov further clarified: Avi Berkowitz, the US Special Representative for the Middle East, called me and spoke about the need to support the deal of the century. I told him that was impossible because the position of the Palestinians and other Arab Nations, including the Arab League, was clear, and a Quadripartite Middle East Peace Summit is currently to be held to discuss the issue.

Meanwhile, a source in the Russian Foreign Ministry said: Special representatives of the Quadripartite Middle East Peace summit are likely to hold a video conference in the coming days, and Russia's envoy to the summit will be Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Vershinin.

The Quadripartite Middle East Peace Summit includes representatives from the United Nations, the United States, the European Union and Russia.

Consultation will be held in the framework of the Quadripartite Middle East Summit and at the level of special representatives, Sergei Vershinin will represent Russia at the meeting and we hope that this meeting will take place in the next few days, according to the source.
