NOURNEWS- In a letter to the World Health Organization, the United States claimed that the removal of Taiwan from the Corona Special Summit could have serious consequences for public health, Sputnik reported.
In the letter, Washington also called on its allies, including Canada, Australia, France, Germany, New Zealand, Britain and Japan, to compel the World Health Organization to accept Taiwan as an observer.
In the letter, the United States also claimed that the international community was vulnerable to medical malpractice.
Last week, the World Health Organization stressed that only member states have the right to decide on the institution's policies, and therefore the Director-General cannot invite Taiwan to attend the Corona Summit.
According to Mehr, the US insistence on inviting Taiwan to attend the meeting, rather than claiming to use the knowledge of Taiwanese experts in meeting health needs, has a political connotation and is aimed at confronting Beijing.
The Beijing government has previously stated that Taiwan, as a part of China, can only become a member of the World Health Organization if it declares that it is part of China - a condition that has been rejected by the Taiwanese.
This is the second attempt by the United States to question the principle of a "united China" that does not interfere in the affairs of the areas controlled by Beijing.
In another allegation, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said that China was violating the autonomy of the US media in the region by violating Hong Kong's autonomy, and that this could overshadow Washington's view of the state of Hong Kong's sovereignty.
The United States is concerned about Taiwan's membership in the World Health Organization (WHO), which has cut funding for "collaborating with China" and is unilaterally renouncing global coronavirus vaccination.
