NOURNEWS- Amnesty International today released a new report on the occasion of World Press Freedom Day, criticizing Cairo for monitoring the Egyptian media.
The Cairo government has arbitrarily detained dozens of journalists at their workplaces since 2016, the report said.
The Human Rights Watch report emphasizes that ensuring the freedom to disseminate information is of paramount importance, especially in the face of extreme coronation.
Philip Luther, director of Amnesty International's Middle East and North Africa Research and Activities Center, blamed the Egyptian government for blocking news coverage and shutting down its news outlets.
The Egyptian government has not yet responded to Amnesty International's report.
The Coronavirus, which spread to Wuhan, China, in late December last year, has spread rapidly around the world and spread to African countries, including Egypt.
Amnesty International's report did not mention the deaths of political prisoners or critics of President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi's government in the country's prisons.
