Araghchi made these remarks during a speech at the 2026 Global Dialogue Forum, hosted by the Foreign Policy Community of Indonesia (FPCI) on September 19. The conference was titled “Calling for a Global U-Turn — Recentering Development, Reclaiming Humanity, Restoring Justice in a Crazi(er) World.”
He reiterated that regional countries must be able to discuss their own security, stability, development, and shared future, and find solutions independently, without interference from foreign powers.
“The world we live in needs a fundamental change of course more than ever, because war, intervention, sanctions, and the use of force have become normal policy tools rather than exceptions,” Araghchi said.
He stressed that decades of foreign intervention, military pressure, and endless wars in the Middle East have proven an undeniable truth: military intervention does not create security, and pressure and coercion do not lead to peace.
The foreign minister also condemned the military aggression by the United States and the Israeli regime against Iran, as well as the targeted assassination of Iranian officials. He warned that if such actions are not met with an effective response from the international community, they will gradually erode the prohibited boundaries of international law.
Araghchi stated that if international institutions, including the United Nations, cannot stand against aggression and hold violators of international law accountable, the credibility and legitimacy of these institutions will inevitably be damaged.
“Today’s world needs genuine multilateralism more than ever,” he said, calling for a shift from militarism toward sustainable development, from interventionism toward respect for national sovereignty, and from endless wars toward lasting peace.
