Over 61K foreign students join schools across Iran’s Razavi Khorasan Province

Some 1.51 million Iranian students and 61,190 foreign-national students are currently studying at schools across Razavi Khorasan Province, the province’s director general for education says.

Safdar Soltani said at a press conference on Sunday that the foreign students include 55,000 Afghan students holding valid documents, 3,190 Iranian students without birth certificates, 1,900 foreign nationals with census documents, and 1,027 students from Arab, European and East Asian countries.

He said students who were enrolled in intermediate grades in the province’s schools last year were allowed to register again this year without restrictions, in line with directives from the Ministry of Education.

Soltani said the provincial education system employs 97,000 people, including 82,000 teachers, 8,500 personnel working in educational quality improvement and 6,500 staff members in support and service positions.

He added that the province faces an annual shortage of educational personnel, but management measures have helped reduce staffing gaps this year.

The smallest shortage is currently among primary-school teachers, while the greatest shortages are in counseling and health-related positions, according to the official.
