Int’l Day of Remembrance and Tribute to Victims of Terrorism held in Tehran

“The International Day of Remembrance and Tribute to the Victims of Terrorism” was held in the presence of a group of families of martyrs who fell victim to terrorism.

The International Day of Commemoration of Victims of Terror was held with the attendance of Alireza Khodagholipour, Deputy Head of the Center for Political and International Studies; Nasser Seraj, Deputy for International Affairs of the Judiciary and Secretary of the Human Rights Headquarters of the Islamic Republic of Iran; and Mohammad Javad Hasheminejad, Secretary-General of the Habilian Foundation, on Saturday morning.

Families of the students of the Shajareh Tayyebeh school in Minab also participated in the event. During the event, the victims of terrorism were honored, and the importance of addressing the human rights dimensions of terrorism and its consequences for nations was stressed.

The book titled “Iran’s Annual Report on Terrorism” was also unveiled on the sidelines of the event.

The United Nations General Assembly designated August 21 as the “International Day of Remembrance and Tribute to the Victims of Terrorism.”

First commemorated on August 21, 2018, this occasion was established to honor the victims and survivors of terrorist acts, support them, and emphasize their human rights and fundamental freedoms. In subsequent years, the UN has placed greater emphasis on supporting victims, addressing their immediate, short-term, and long-term needs, and involving victims in global efforts to combat terrorism.

Deputy Minister: Iranian nation will triumph over economic terrorism

Head of the Center for Political and International Studies at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Saeed Khatibzadeh says Iran’s nation will once again succeed in resisting economic terrorism.

Referring to the continuation of the US policy of maximum pressure and economic sanctions against Iran, Khatibzadeh told IRNA on the sidelines of the ceremony marking the International Day of Remembrance and Tribute to the Victims of Terrorism that by mobilizing all capacities and with the cooperation of all branches of power, the Iranian government will strive to neutralize sanctions and protect national interests and security.

The Iranian nation, as in the past, will prevail through resistance, he added. The crimes they commit stem from their failure in the previous stage of the war, he said, pointing to the US president’s claim of economic warfare against the Iranian nation.

For years, they have tried to pressure the Iranian nation and, unfortunately, keep repeating their flawed narratives in international media, he stated.

They explicitly say they impose sanctions to make the Iranian nation desperate and to exhaust the people’s resilience, he stressed.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Khatibzadeh termed the Shajareh Tayyebeh school massacre in Minab as one manifestation of terror.

Today, we are also facing economic terrorism whose victims are ordinary people of Islamic Iran, he reiterated.

Over the past year, hundreds of international documents regarding new acts of terror have been prepared at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and submitted to international organizations, he said.
