Addressing a session of Parliament virtually on Tuesday, Ghalibaf addressed several domestic and regional issues, particularly the US non-compliance with the framework text, also known as the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), signed by President Donald Trump himself.
Iran will not reopen the Strait of Hormuz until the conditions set out in the MoU are implemented, including lifting the blockade, releasing frozen assets, lifting oil sanctions, and ending threats and military operations at all fronts, he stressed.
While paying tribute to the martyred Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ghalibaf noted that forty-eight years of guidance of Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei prepared the Iranian people and the Armed Forces to stand united and steadfast in the face of aggressions launched by the US and the Israeli regime.
Stating that the whole world acknowledged the victory of sovereign and independent Iran over the “criminal, terrorist, and corrupt American–Zionist enemy,” the top parliamentarian rebuked the aggressive regimes in Washington and Tel Aviv for their delusion of overthrowing the sacred system of the Islamic Republic.
He said the synergy of the Iranian nation, both in diplomatic and military fields, as well as the public enthusiasm in the streets and the guidance of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Sayyid Mojtaba Hosseini Khamenei, became a testament to America’s defeat, resulting in the joy of Iran’s friends worldwide and the anger of the enemies.
Ghalibaf also pointed to Trump’s backing down on the Pakistan-brokered MoU with Tehran, saying the US non-compliance with the document was out of desperation, but it was a massive diplomatic defeat for Washington in practice.
He said that the Iranian Armed Forces remained in close consultation with the country’s diplomatic apparatus and gave a practical and crushing response to the breach of promise, showing to the enemy that the Iranian nation, with unity, courage, and rationality, will not hesitate to claim its inalienable rights.
