The memorandum was signed during the closing session of the 10th Joint Trade Committee in Islamabad on Wednesday, attended by Iran’s Minister of Industry, Mine and Trade, Mohammad Atabak, and Pakistan’s Commerce Minister, Jam Kamal Khan.
The two sides discussed expanding commercial cooperation, particularly in shared border regions, developing maritime and shipping activities, coordinating steps toward a free trade agreement, establishing joint free trade zones, and promoting barter trade.
Atabak said negotiations over the past two days had focused on increasing commercial exchanges, adding that some areas required facilitation and the removal of obstacles, and that the Pakistani side agreed to pursue further follow-up.
He said key decisions included activating border regions, expanding cross-border trade, strengthening private-sector participation, exchanging technical delegations, and immediately implementing bilateral agreements.
“The Islamic Republic has no limitation on increasing the volume of trade with Pakistan,” Atabak said, calling on business communities in both countries to play a leading role.
A separate cooperation memorandum was also signed between the Iran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture and the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry.
Atabak is also scheduled to meet Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif during his visit.
