Advisor to Leader: Iran’s new phase of deterrence means attacks will not come at low cost

Ali Akbar Velayati, senior adviser to the Leader of the Islamic Revolution on international affairs, has warned that the notion that striking Iran would come at little cost is a mistake whose consequences could extend far beyond the military sphere, as the country has strengthened its deterrence.

In a post on X on Wednesday, Velayati said Iran has entered a new phase of deterrence, stressing that any attack on Iran could have repercussions extending beyond the battlefield and spilling over into global energy markets and the world economy.

He also cautioned the White House against threatening Iran, mobilizing its regional allies and activating European lobbying efforts.

“The White House should understand that threatening Iran, mobilizing its regional allies and activating the European lobby will not bring greater security or stability; rather, it will globalize the consequences of its mistakes.”
