Hatem Boustani, the president of Ahvaz Jundishapur University of Medical Sciences, said on Thursday that Shahid Baqaei 2 Hospital in Ahvaz resumed operations this morning after being temporarily closed due to attacks the previous night. The medical facility had been evacuated for about six hours to ensure the safety of patients and staff, he added.
On Wednesday, US airstrikes occurred near the hospital, prompting the evacuation of children who were receiving cancer treatment.
Shahid Baqaei 2 Hospital is one of the specialized medical centers in Khuzestan Province, primarily focused on treating cancer and hematology patients, particularly children. It serves a significant number of patients from both the province and neighboring regions.
