Leader’s funeral symbol of national unity in Iran: Pezeshkian

President Masoud Pezeshkian says the presence of people from all walks of life in the massive funeral held for the late Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, symbolizes national unity in Iran.

Speaking at a cabinet session on Wednesday, Pezeshkian said Iranians "created an epic" by showing up in their millions for the funeral processions held for Ayatollah Khamenei in the capital Tehran and in the central city of Qom earlier this week.

"The massive and magnificent presence of all segments of the people was a display of unity, cohesion, coordination, interaction, cooperation, and management," he said.

The president said that the unprecedented gathering of people for Ayatollah Khamenei's funeral has acted as "a shield against the threats of America and the enemies."

Ayatollah Khamenei was martyred in an airstrike on his office in Tehran on February 28, the first day of a US-Israeli aggression against Iran, which ended with a ceasefire in early April.

The US and the Israeli regime launched the aggression on Iran with a clear and stated purpose of "regime change" in the country, calling on the Iranians to help them through the mission.

However, daily demonstrations in support of the Islamic Republic culminated in million-man marches in Tehran and Qom during Ayatollah Khamenei's funeral processions, further boosting the morale of the Iranian armed forces and government in their confrontation with the US and the Israeli regime.

Pezeshkian said in his Wednesday remarks that Iran will continue to rely on the public support that has been created in the aftermath of the war and Ayatollah Khamenei's martyrdom to stand against foreign pressure and plots.

"With this approach to management and leadership, we will move forward and will disrupt the dreams of the enemies through the national unity and cohesion that exists within society," he said.
