The management at the holy shrine of Imam Ali (PBUH) in the Iraqi city of Najaf says it has finalized preparations for the funeral procession of the martyred Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, in coordination with the relevant Iraqi authorities.
According to a statement on Tuesday, a comprehensive operational plan has been put in place to ensure security, logistics, public services, media coverage, and crowd management during the funeral ceremonies.
Haider al-Issawi, a member of the administrative organization of Imam Ali’s shrine, said extensive coordination meetings and field inspections had been conducted to determine procession routes and mobilize the personnel and resources needed to facilitate the event.
Adnan al-Arabi, director of public relations for the central media committee overseeing Ayatollah Khamenei’s funeral in Najaf, praised the efforts of the authorities involved in the preparations. He said the ceremony would be held with dignity and accompanied by extensive media coverage befitting its significance.
Iraqi authorities have announced that Ayatollah Khamenei’s body will arrive in Najaf on Tuesday afternoon, where an official funeral ceremony will be attended by senior Iranian and Iraqi officials.
The funeral procession is scheduled to begin at 6:00 a.m. local time on Wednesday, with millions of Iraqis expected to take part in the ceremony from Kufa to Najaf. Later in the day, at 4:00 p.m. local time, the procession will continue through parts of the holy city of Karbala before reaching the shrines of Imam Hossein (PBUH) and his brother Abolfazl al-Abbas.
