In a statement carried by Sepah News early on Saturday, the IRGC Navy said the United States violated its commitments after launching airstrikes on Iran’s coastline under the pretext of a vessel’s unauthorized passage through the Strait of Hormuz.
The statement also censured Washington for breaking a ceasefire following Israel’s violation of the truce in southern Lebanon.
“The IRGC Navy, in response to this aggression, struck the positions of the terrorist US army in the region,” the statement said.
The IRGC further said that, under Article 5 of the Islamabad memorandum of understanding, arrangements governing navigation through the Strait of Hormuz fall under coordination with the Islamic Republic of Iran.
It said the United States was attempting to violate those commitments through provocations of various sides.
The statement warned that any future attacks would draw “a broader response than this.”
