Wang met with Ghadir Nezamipour, the Iranian Deputy Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, on the sidelines of the BRICS meeting in New Delhi, India, on Monday.
The 14 points of the recently-signed memorandum of understanding between Tehran and Washington embody the “spirit of equality,” align with the objectives of the United Nations Charter, and are consistent with the norms of international relations, Wang said, according to a statement from the Chinese Foreign Ministry.
He emphasized that upholding and implementing the memorandum of understanding would help solidify the “hard-won” ceasefire, create new opportunities for Iran-US relations, and contribute to restoring peace in the Middle East.
“As Iran’s comprehensive strategic partner, China has consistently maintained a fair and objective stance. China supports all efforts that contribute to peace and backs Iran in safeguarding its sovereignty, security, and national dignity,” he said, expressing support for Tehran’s efforts to improve relations with Persian Gulf countries and other regional states.
Wang added that China is “willing to continue assisting in its own way and play a constructive role in the speedy restoration of regional peace and tranquility.”
Meanwhile, Nezamipour expressed gratitude for China’s political support and highlighted the importance of strengthening the strategic partnership between Tehran and Beijing.
He expressed hope that China would continue to play its important role in facilitating the effective implementation of the first step of the memorandum of understanding between Iran and the United States.
