Iran-Russia children’s painting contest in Astrakhan honors Minab students

An international children’s painting competition between Iran and Russia opened in the Russian city of Astrakhan with a ceremony honoring 168 students killed in a US-Israeli attack on a school in the southern Iranian city of Minab on February 28.

The event brought together Iranian and Russian officials, including Iran’s Consul General in Astrakhan Ahmad Heydarian, the region’s culture minister and representatives of Russia’s Foreign Ministry, who highlighted the role of culture and art in strengthening friendship between nations and supporting children.

Heydarian said the deaths of innocent children in military conflicts, including the Minab students, underscored the need for greater international efforts to preserve peace and protect children.

“Art, especially painting, is a common language among nations,” he said, adding that children can use art to portray a world of friendship, peace and coexistence instead of violence and war.

Speaking to Russian television channel Astrakhan 24 on the sidelines of the event, Heydarian said no child should become a victim of military attacks and violence in the 21st century.
