In the early hours of Wednesday, the Persian Gulf and West Asia witnessed one of the most tense periods in recent months. A chain of events that began with a US attack on an Iranian oil tanker near the Strait of Hormuz continued with Iranian missile and drone strikes against US targets in the region, triggering warning systems and prompting the suspension of airport operations in some regional countries.
According to an official statement issued by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, the US military late last night targeted an Iranian oil tanker in the vicinity of the Strait of Hormuz, causing damage to the vessel’s engine room. The IRGC described the incident as an act of aggression and a violation of regulations governing maritime navigation in the region.
The IRGC stated that in response to the attack on the Iranian tanker, a US vessel identified as Panaya was targeted by missiles launched by the IRGC Navy. The statement read:
In the Name of God, the Destroyer of the Tyrants
“Whoever transgresses against you, respond against him in the same manner as he transgressed against you.”
Late last night, the aggressive US military struck an Iranian oil tanker near the Strait of Hormuz with an aerial projectile, causing damage to the vessel’s engine room.
In response to this act of aggression and violation of the regulations governing the Strait of Hormuz, a vessel belonging to the American-Zionist enemy named Panaya was targeted by missiles of the IRGC Navy.
In a renewed act of aggression, the American enemy targeted an IRGC communications tower in southern Qeshm Island with aerial projectiles. In response, their air and helicopter base stationed in one of the regional countries, as well as the headquarters of the US Fifth Fleet, were attacked by missiles and drones launched by the IRGC Aerospace Force.
We had previously warned that any aggression would be met with a different and more severe response, and we acted accordingly. These responses should serve as a lesson.
We reiterate that disrupting the security of the Strait of Hormuz will carry a heavy price for the aggressive US military.
Attack on Iranian Tanker and Renewed US Military Action
Simultaneously with the publication of the IRGC statement, US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that American forces had intercepted a tanker that Washington claimed was heading toward an Iranian port. CENTCOM alleged that a US helicopter or aircraft disabled the vessel by firing a missile into its engine room.
The action came despite statements by Donald Trump in recent weeks suggesting the possibility of reaching an agreement with Iran and easing maritime restrictions. As a result, military action against a vessel bound for Iranian ports was interpreted by media outlets and observers as evidence of Washington’s continued policy of military pressure.
CENTCOM Confirms the Attacks
US Central Command also confirmed that Iranian attacks had taken place. In a statement, CENTCOM said US forces had intercepted several Iranian ballistic missiles and drones.
According to US claims, three missiles launched toward Bahrain were destroyed by US and Bahraini air defense systems, while two missiles fired toward Kuwait fell before reaching their targets.
However, in a separate statement, CENTCOM asserted that none of the Iranian attacks struck US targets. The contradictory nature of these claims suggests that the battle of narratives is continuing alongside the military confrontation on the ground.
Warning Sirens in Bahrain, Kuwait, and UAE
As reports of the missile attacks emerged, Bahrain’s Ministry of Interior announced that warning sirens had been activated and urged citizens to remain calm and move to safe locations.
Local sources also reported hearing explosions in parts of Bahrain. In Kuwait, reports surfaced of an attack on Ali Al Salem Air Base and the activation of air defense systems. Some media outlets stated that US facilities, including Al Dhafra, Al Safran, Al Minhad, and the military section of Dubai International Airport in the United Arab Emirates, were subjected to coordinated and extensive attacks.
Regional media further reported that airports and commercial flight operations in Bahrain, Kuwait, and the United Arab Emirates were temporarily suspended. There were also reports of warning sirens sounding at some US military installations in Saudi Arabia.
Multiple Explosions Heard in Erbil
News sources reported that several explosions were heard in Erbil, Iraq.
According to Iraq News Network, local sources said a number of suicide drones struck the headquarters of anti-Iranian separatist terrorist groups in Iraq’s Erbil province. Hours later, the Komala terrorist group issued a statement saying that at 11:00 p.m. local time on Tuesday, two Iranian missiles struck the party’s headquarters in the Alana Valley, northeast of Erbil.
Strait of Hormuz: Focal Point of the Crisis
In recent weeks, the Strait of Hormuz has once again become the primary flashpoint in tensions between Iran and the US. This strategic waterway, through which a significant share of the world’s energy exports passes, has long been regarded as one of the most sensitive geopolitical chokepoints on the globe.
The IRGC concluded its statement by warning that any attempt to undermine security in the Strait of Hormuz would be met with a severe response from the Islamic Republic of Iran. The warning comes as the US has expanded its military presence in regional waters in recent months and has repeatedly taken positions regarding the monitoring and control of maritime traffic in the Persian Gulf.
