The majority of lawmakers present in the parliament session on Monday voted for Ghalibaf, the representative of the people of Tehran, Rey, Shemiranat, Islamshahr and Pardis, to retain the speaker’s position.
Osman Salari and Mohammad Taghi Naghdali were two other representatives who were nominated for the position but failed to secure enough votes.
Ghalibaf, a politician and former commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC), as well as Iran’s top negotiator in talks with the United States, has served as speaker since 2020, including four years in the 11th parliament.
During the same Parliament session, the voting was also held for the post of deputy speakers, with six candidates in the fray.
Ali Nikzad, a representative of Ardabil, and Hamidreza Hajibabaei, a representative of Hamedan, retained their posts as the first and second deputy speakers, with 143 and 100 votes, respectively.
