Iran’s minister says sustainable food security is expanding in region

Minister of Agricultural Jihad, Gholamreza Nouri Ghezeljeh, has stressed the agricultural production and trade capacities of Iran and Pakistan, noting that sustainable food security in the region is expanding.

Speaking in a meeting with the visiting Interior Minister of Pakistan Syed Mohsin Naqvi, Ghezeljeh said the people of Iran and Pakistan share a rich culture and deep, historical friendly relations.

The relations between the Iranian and Pakistani governments have always been based on close and strategic cooperation in various fields, he added.

He appreciated Pakistan’s diplomatic role in the negotiation process to reach an agreement to end the war between Iran and the United States.

There is vast potential to develop cooperation between the two countries in trade and the exchange of basic commodities, including agricultural and livestock products, he noted.

Grounds have been laid for expanding cooperation between Tehran and Islamabad to secure, guarantee, and strengthen the food security of both countries and the region, Ghezeljeh said.

This is within the framework of existing cooperation agreements, which are rapidly developing, and we will soon witness good developments in this field, he added.

Meanwhile, Naqvi said there are special opportunities and capacities in the agricultural and livestock sectors of both countries, the details and ways to develop which will be examined in joint discussions.

He pointed to the need to establish peace in the Persian Gulf region and said peace and the establishment of security are prerequisites for the development of trade and food security in the region.

The two sides underlined the need to accelerate and operationalize the agreements made in the agricultural sector and facilitate the transportation of basic commodities during President Masoud Pezeshkian’s last year visit to Pakistan.
