Iran and Pakistan agree to facilitate cross‑border trade exchanges

Iran's Interior Minister, Eskandar Momeni, and his visiting Pakistani counterpart, Syed Mohsin Naqvi, have discussed bilateral relations, including joint measures by the two neighboring counties to facilitate border trade, transit, and exchange of goods.

Momeni discussed a wide range of issues, especially border trade and ways to boost it, with the Pakistani minister, who made an unannounced trip to Tehran to meet senior Iranian officials on Saturday.

While welcoming Naqvi and appreciating his second visit to the country in over a month, Momeni expressed his gratitude to the government and people of Pakistan for their friendly and brotherly stance towards the Islamic Republic, adding that good relations between the two countries are rooted in their history.

Stating that his discussion with the Pakistani counterpart was mainly focused on trade, he expressed hope that long common borders would become even more secure and beneficial with mutual efforts.

Both the governments and peoples of the two countries have a very positive view of each other, reflecting the first message of Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Khamenei about Pakistan that contained a special emphasis on the relations between the two countries, Momeni noted.

He further said that as both sides are determined to expand economic and trade relations, necessary facilities should be created on both sides of the border to further strengthen this unity, solidarity, and brotherhood.

For his part, Naqvi thanked the Iranian interior minister for hosting him, and said the two countries would reach tangible solutions on issues related to Iran-Pakistan relations, border security, and trade.

The Pakistani minister also expressed his readiness to follow up on the issues discussed with Momeni with more seriousness in his meetings with other Iranian officials on Sunday.
