Why the Israeli Regime Continues the Killings in Gaza

NOURNEWS – The escalation of attacks by the Israeli regime against Gaza and Lebanon continues at a time when Trump’s peace-oriented policies toward Palestine have failed and the Gaza Peace Council has collapsed. Iran has once again emphasized the necessity of a comprehensive ceasefire and global responsibility in confronting the Israeli regime’s acts of aggression.

As military aggression and crimes by the Israeli regime against Lebanon persist, Palestinian media have reported an intensification of Israeli attacks across various areas of the Gaza Strip. According to these reports, eastern and northern parts of Gaza City have come under artillery shelling. Israeli naval vessels have directly fired toward the shores of Khan Younis in the southern Gaza Strip, targeting the area. The Israeli army has also carried out demolitions and explosions of residential homes in eastern Gaza City. The Israeli Kan network reported that the regime’s political and security officials are preparing plans to resume large-scale military operations in Gaza. This aggression, an explicit violation of the ceasefire, agreements, and the stated commitments of the Gaza Peace Council, reflects less a position of strength than evidence of the crisis facing the regime’s leadership, including Netanyahu, who views continued killing as a means of evading accountability. At the same time, these crimes once again underscore the validity of Iran’s position regarding the need to impose restrictions on the Strait of Hormuz and to establish a ceasefire with enforceable guarantees across the entire region.

Evading Accountability and Failure of US–Israeli Policies

The Israeli regime has resumed intensified killings in Gaza amid widespread acknowledgment of the failure of US–Israeli efforts in the face of Iran’s asserted power, a development that has created a crisis for the regime’s leadership, particularly given that more than half of the population in the occupied territories reportedly acknowledges this failure. Experience shows that leaders such as Netanyahu have consistently used violence as a means of avoiding accountability. Concurrent with the attacks on Lebanon and Gaza, Hebrew-language media reported that the Israeli prime minister requested a delay of at least two weeks in providing testimony in court, citing security and political reasons. The final piece of this troubling pattern can be seen in reports following discussions between Trump and Netanyahu, which claimed that any future strike in Beirut would require special authorization, including personal approval from Netanyahu. Once again, Netanyahu is pursuing personal objectives through genocide, occupation, and the implementation of a scorched-earth policy from Gaza to Lebanon. This approach reflects a self-serving and destructive mindset that deems the sacrifice of millions and the devastation of an entire region acceptable for the sake of political survival.

An America That Does Not Deliver Peace

The escalation in Gaza comes as Trump has repeatedly portrayed himself as a bringer of peace for Palestine and established the Gaza Peace Council on the sidelines of the Davos conference with that stated aim. However, contrary to US claims that the council would include 60 countries, only 20 ultimately participated. Regarding its inaction, official sources recently reported that the peace committee affiliated with the US president has secured only a small portion of the $17bn pledged for Gaza’s reconstruction. Of the 10 countries that committed financial support, only three, the United Arab Emirates, Morocco, and the United States, have contributed, with total funding to date amounting to less than $1bn. The evidence suggests that Trump’s professed pursuit of peace serves merely to buy time for renewed Israeli aggression, sideline the Palestinian issue, and repeat the same peace rhetoric used over the past year to mislead public opinion.

Failure of the Peace Council and the Validity of Iran’s Position

The Israeli regime’s aggression against Lebanon and Gaza, carried out with what is widely seen as a US green light and rooted in global silence toward its actions, once again exposes the failure of the Gaza Peace Council and underscores the validity of Iran’s stance and the need for global responsibility. Tehran stresses that any ceasefire or end to the war must encompass the entire region and be structured around a coordinated global effort to contain and confront the United States and the Israeli regime.

At the same time, Iran’s calculated management of the Strait of Hormuz is framed as a legitimate measure grounded in international law and aligned with its commitment to safeguarding the security of this strategic waterway. This serves as a deterrent factor that could foster regional and global convergence in response to US actions and Israeli aggression. The international community now bears responsibility to utilize the capacities shaped by Iran to confront and hold accountable US–Israeli aggressors. Otherwise, Iran, relying on its own capabilities and the resistance front—will pursue this objective, and countries and US international institutions that align themselves on what is seen as the wrong side of history will not be exempt from accountability.
