In a letter titled “Break Your Silence,” Abyar urged fellow Academy members to respond to what she said were rising civilian casualties, including women and children, and attacks on non-military infrastructure.
She stated that strikes attributed to the United States and Israel have resulted in thousands of deaths, while also targeting facilities such as hospitals, universities, residential areas, and energy infrastructure.
Abyar appealed to the global film community to use its artistic and media influence to raise awareness and, where possible, condemn the violence. She stressed that breaking silence could contribute to reducing harm to civilians and help bring an end to the conflict.
