Pakistan FM statement: Four-party consensus in Islamabad; diplomacy the only path to ending the war

NOURNEWS – Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, in a statement following the quadrilateral meeting of the foreign ministers of Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Egypt and Pakistan, said participants agreed that diplomacy and dialogue are the only viable path to ending the crisis and achieving lasting peace.

The statement by Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, released by Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs at the conclusion of the second quadrilateral meeting, reads as follows:

In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful,

Distinguished ladies and gentlemen,

As you are aware, the foreign ministers of Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Egypt are in Pakistan at my invitation.

I held highly productive bilateral meetings with all three ministers. I trust you have reviewed the respective press statements.

The ministers also met with Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif. As you know, the purpose of their visit was to attend the second consultative meeting among Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Egypt, held today in Islamabad.

As you will recall, our first meeting took place on March 19, 2026, in Riyadh. Allow me to present the host’s summary of today’s meeting:

The ministers held a comprehensive and in-depth discussion on the evolving regional situation and explored pathways for an early and sustainable end to the war.
They expressed concern over the devastating impact of the ongoing conflict on lives and livelihoods across the broader region.
It was agreed that the war serves no one’s interests and will only lead to further death and destruction. Unity of the Islamic Ummah is of paramount importance in these challenging times.
I briefed the ministers on the prospects of potential negotiations between the United States and Iran in Islamabad. They expressed full support for this initiative.
The ministers emphasized the need for unity to contain the situation, reduce the risk of military escalation and create conditions conducive to structured dialogue among the concerned parties.
They reaffirmed that dialogue and diplomacy are the only viable means to prevent conflict and promote peace and coexistence, stressing adherence to the principles of the UN Charter, including respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity.
They also discussed ways to further strengthen cooperation among the four brotherly countries and agreed to establish a committee of senior officials to define implementation frameworks based on mutual understanding and consensus.

Distinguished ladies and gentlemen,

I would like to express my deep appreciation to my brothers—the foreign ministers of Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Egypt—for supporting Pakistan’s efforts to promote peace.

Under the leadership of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Pakistan has maintained continuous engagement with regional and international partners and has actively participated in all initiatives aimed at ending this conflict.

Pakistan also maintains important relations with the United States and has been in active contact with its leadership as part of efforts to de-escalate tensions and pursue a peaceful resolution.

In this context, Pakistan welcomes the confidence expressed by both Iran and the United States in its role as a facilitator and stands ready to host meaningful dialogue in the coming days to achieve a comprehensive and lasting resolution.

I also held a detailed telephone conversation with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, who expressed full support for Pakistan’s initiative. Likewise, the UN Secretary-General conveyed his support during our call.

I have also engaged with several counterparts worldwide, all of whom expressed strong support and confidence in our efforts.

Pakistan will continue these efforts with sincerity and commitment and calls for the prayers and support of the international community in achieving lasting peace.

The quadrilateral meeting was held in Islamabad on Sunday March 29, 2026, with the participation of the foreign ministers of Pakistan, Turkey, Egypt and Saudi Arabia.
