Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei has paid respect to martyrs of US terrorist attack on Destroyer Dena, saying that the US cowardly attack on the destroyer is unprecedented in terms of brutality and explicit violation of the fundamental war principles and is an example of war crime.

The names of the perpetrators of this henious crime has been recorded among other criminals in the history, Baqaei wrote on his X account.

People gathered in Tehran’s main squares on Tuesday to pay tribute to the 84 navy personnel who were martyred aboard IRIS Dena on  March 4 .

IRIS Dena was hit by an MK‑48 torpedo from a US submarine off the coast of Galle, Sri Lanka, after participating in a naval drill in India to which Iran had been officially invited.

Iran denounced the “cowardly” attack and vowed to retaliate decisively.

The United States and Israel launched a war of aggression against Iran on February 28, when they assassinated former Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei and several top Iranian military commanders, and bombarded a school in Minab, southern Iran, killing 168 schoolgirls.
