Larijani: There are no negotiations underway with US

NOURNEWS – Following claims by certain American media outlets about Tehran’s alleged efforts to resume talks with Washington, Ali Larijani rejected any negotiations with the United States and described Donald Trump as a source of turmoil in the region.

Ali Larijani, Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, denied media reports suggesting that Iran is seeking to launch new negotiations with the United States, stating that Tehran has no plans to engage in dialogue with Washington. He accused Donald Trump of dragging the region into chaos with “wishful thinking” and said the former US president is now concerned about rising American casualties.

Trump had previously claimed that Iran was seeking negotiations and that he had agreed to the matter. These remarks come as analysts argue that the US president, under pressure from the country’s political establishment and the international community, is attempting to portray himself as victorious in the regional war by advancing the claim of negotiations.

Responding to media allegations that Iran was trying to reopen a path to talks with Washington, Larijani once again rejected any dialogue with the United States. In a message posted on his personal account on the social media platform X, he described the narrative surrounding Tehran’s willingness to negotiate as “unrealistic” and emphasized that the Islamic Republic has no plan to negotiate with the United States.

The Wall Street Journal had earlier claimed that Iran’s Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council had initiated fresh efforts to open a channel of dialogue with Washington — an assertion that drew a firm rebuttal from Larijani.

Continuing his remarks, Larijani described Donald Trump as responsible for the region’s recent instability, writing: “Trump dragged the region into turmoil with delusional ambitions and is now worried about further American casualties.” He also accused the US president of acting in a “delusional” manner, turning the slogan “America First” into “Israel First” and sacrificing American soldiers for power-driven objectives. According to Larijani, Iran did not initiate any aggression and its armed forces are acting in self-defense.

Trump’s claim that Tehran is interested in negotiations comes at a time when he faces mounting pressure domestically from the US political establishment as well as widespread international criticism. Some analysts believe that raising the prospect of negotiations with Iran is an effort by the US president to manage public opinion and craft an image of victory amid escalating regional crises.

Nevertheless, Tehran’s official position indicates that under current circumstances, there is no prospect for the start of new negotiations between the two countries.
