According to IRNA, citing the Iraqi News Agency, the Iraqi government, in a statement, has offered condolences on the martyrdom of Ayatollah Khamenei, to the noble people of Iran and the entire Islamic world.
Ayatollah Khamenei was martyred as a result of a blatant aggression that violates all human and ethical norms, laws, and conventions, added the statement.
He had dedicated his entire life to serving the people of Iran and had defended his people against injustice and tyranny, followed the path of truth, striving to serve the ideals of the Islamic world and all of humanity, the statement said.
Iraq, in this regard, reiterated its serious call for an immediate and unconditional cessation of military operations and actions that are driving the region to unprecedented levels of violence, fueling conflict, and undermining international peace and security, it said.
The statement noted that the Iraqi government has declared three days of public mourning across Iraq on the martyrdom.
Ayatollah Khamenei was martyred following an attack by the Israeli regime and the United States on Saturday morning, February 28, 2026.
The Cabinet has declared 40 days of public mourning and seven days of holidays following the martyrdom of the Leader of the Revolution.
